BELLFLOWER, California
Bellfower is a City of 77,513 people covering 6.1 sq. miles is located between Los Angeles and Long Beach. Their motto "The Friendly City" lives on through the small town feel-closing the Boulevard every summer for the Annual Chili Cook-off, the Car Show and the Liberty Day parade. At Christmas the Boulevard closes for the lighting of the Christmas tree, with sleigh rides, snow, carolling, and of course Santa! Their Monday morning Farmers Market is one of the most popular in the area.
Bellflower has won seven national awards for outstanding community outreach in the past 2 years. In December 2008 Bellflower was named to the prestigious list of Crown Communities for 2008. This award is provided to the best local governments who exhibit creative problem solving and collaboration in redevelopment. Only 10 cities nationally are honored.
The Annual Bravo awards is always inspiring and each year the celebrity host makes attending the awards a treat that is worth it. This year, Huell Houser will be the celebrity host, along with Don Knabe and Sheriff Lee Baca and Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman. And to make it even better the City provides lunch to the attendees.
Bellflower has a housing and grant program for First-time home buyers and rehab property grants for interested home buyers. With interest free loans, home-ownership is made possible for everyone in Bellflower.
Check the City's website I think you'll be impressed with the things this small town has to offer. Everything from the history of this special community to an update on the many improvement projects around town. You'll meet the Mayor, Ray Dunton and read his goals for the future of this wonderful 'small town'. Stop by the visit I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
