BIG NEWS -- Bellflower has just published the date for their Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. This year's event will be on Friday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Square on Bellflower Blvd. at Bemont St., just north of the Sherriff's substation. Bring the family and enjoy a visit with Santa, music, refreshments, and a rink for skates and scooters (helmet required). This is always one of the best events of the year in the City don't miss it, get into the spirit early. Bring in Christmas the old fashioned way, the way it should be on the street celebrating with friends and family.
Bellfower is a City of 77,513 people covering 6.1 sq. miles is located between Los Angeles and Long Beach. Their motto "Devoringly City" lives on through the small town feel-closing the Boulevard every summer for the Annual Chili Cook-off, the Car Show and the Liberty Day parade. At Christmas the Boulevard closes for the lighting of the Christmas tree, with sleigh rides, snow, carolling, and of course Santa! Their Monday morning Farmers Market is one of the most popular in the area.
Bellflower has won seven national awards for outstanding community outreach in the past 2 years. In December 2008 Bellflower was named to the prestigious list of Crown Communities for 2008. This award is provided to the best local governments who exhibit creative problem solving and collaboration in redevelopment. Only 10 cities nationally are honored.
The Annual Bravo awards is always inspiring and each year the celebrity host makes attending the awards a treat that is worth it. This year, Henry Winkler was the celebrity host, along with Don Knabe and Sheriff Le Baca and Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman. And to make it even better the City provides lunch to the attendees.
